National Disaster Management Authority

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is India’s apex body for Disaster Management, established in response to the Government’s recognition of Disaster Management as a critical national priority. Enacted through the Disaster Management Act of 2005, NDMA, led by the Prime Minister, oversees Disaster Management efforts nationwide, coordinating with State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) to implement holistic strategies for preparedness, response, and mitigation. With a focus on minimizing the impact of disasters on communities and infrastructure, NDMA plays a pivotal role in fostering an integrated approach to Disaster Management across the country.
